Combining my interest in working in serial and creating for an unknowing audience, the Postcard Project was my solution to a study abroad semester away from my studio. Each postcard (31 in total) depicts a “dirty image” in an attempt to have it rejected by either the Italian or US Postal Service as it makes its way from somewhere in Europe to a recipient in the United States. I was interested in what I would have to depict to get a postcard rejected, and whether more realistic renderings would be considered more “artful” or more “pornographic.” The act of mailing each postcard became a performance as I walked to various post offices and mailboxes throughout the city, armed with my artfully rendered pornography.
